An Easy Make for the Kids

Hey there, fellow baking enthusiasts! Are you ready to whip up something scrumptious? Today, I’m excited to share a delightful recipe that’s perfect for kids. This easy strawberry sponge cake is not only fun to make, but it also tastes amazing! Trust me, it will make you feel like a star baker in no time!

Gather Your Ingredients

Before we dive into the baking fun, let’s gather our ingredients. You’ll need:

  • 200g self-raising flour

  • 200g caster sugar

  • 200g unsalted butter, softened

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • A pinch of salt

  • Fresh strawberries

  • Whipping cream

All these ingredients can go straight into a mixer! How easy is that? Just toss them in, and let the machine do its magic.

Mixing It All Together

Once you have everything in the mixer, it’s time to blend! Start on a low speed to avoid a flour explosion, then gradually increase the speed until everything is well combined. The mixture should be light and fluffy. If you want to add a little extra flair, you can fold in some finely chopped strawberries at this stage. Yum!

Baking Time

Now, pour your mixture into a greased cake tin. I usually use a round tin, but you can get creative with shapes! Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (160°C for fan ovens) for about 25-30 minutes. Keep an eye on it! You’ll know it’s done when a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.

Cooling Down

Once baked, take it out of the oven and let it cool in the tin for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. This part is crucial! You don’t want to rush it. A warm cake and cream don’t mix well!

Filling with Strawberries and Cream

Now comes the fun part! Once your cake is cool, slice it in half horizontally. Whip up some cream until it’s nice and fluffy. Spread a generous layer of cream on the bottom half of the cake, then pile on the fresh strawberries. You can slice them or leave them whole, depending on your preference.

Place the top half of the cake back on, and voilà! You have a stunning strawberry sponge cake that’s sure to impress everyone.

Enjoying Your Creation

Slice it up and serve it to your family and friends. Watch their faces light up with joy as they take their first bite! This cake is perfect for parties, picnics, or just a lovely afternoon treat.

And remember, baking is all about having fun and experimenting. Don’t be afraid to add your twist to the recipe!

Final Thoughts

I hope you enjoy making this delightful strawberry sponge cake as much as I do! It’s a fantastic way to inspire a love for cooking and baking in people of all ages. So, gather the kids, roll up your sleeves, and let’s get baking!

Happy baking, everyone! 🍰
